YOGYAKARTA – Joyful laughter and bright smiles filled the atmosphere at Mina Supermarket on Friday (26 September 2025), as DT Peduli Yogyakarta held its “Happy Shopping with Orphaned Children” program. A total of 15 orphaned children from the surrounding area participated in this meaningful activity, where they experienced the joy of shopping firsthand—choosing school supplies, clothes, and personal items for themselves.
The warm and cheerful energy was palpable from the very beginning. The children eagerly pushed their shopping trolleys, chatting excitedly with their mentors about what items to pick.
“I’m so happy I get to choose my things. It feels like my birthday!” said Askana, one of the participants, beaming with joy.
For DT Peduli, the happiness of these children is the driving force behind continuing such programs. Adhi, a representative from DT Peduli Yogyakarta, shared that the initiative was not only about shopping but also about creating precious moments for the children.
“We want these children to feel loved and cared for. It’s not just about giving them items—it’s about giving them an experience that makes them feel valued and joyful. Their smiles today are the greatest gift for us,” said Adhi with emotion.
Beyond bringing happiness, the activity also helped the children learn how to make thoughtful choices and understand the value of personal needs.
“Many of them were unsure at first but later learned to decide what they truly needed. It’s a small but important life lesson,” he added.
The event concluded with a collective prayer and a photo session. For the children, it was one of the happiest days of their lives. And for DT Peduli, it served as a reminder that sharing doesn’t always have to be grand—sometimes, even the smallest act of kindness can create a smile that means the world.
