PALEMBANG, INDONESIA – The spirit of Eid al-Adha 1446 H once again brought warmth and joy through the noble act of sharing. For DT Peduli South Sumatra, this sacred occasion was not just about the ritual of animal sacrifice, but a deeper mission: to deliver happiness to the farthest corners of the province.

Through the Qurban Peduli Negeri (Qurban for the Nation) Program, sacrificial animals entrusted by generous donors (muqorrib) were processed on Monday (June 9, 2025), with full adherence to Islamic principles.

Behind every distribution effort lies a heartfelt journey that reflects DT Peduli South Sumatra’s deep compassion for those in need—even as far as Pulau Kijang, a remote island isolated from the hustle and bustle of Palembang City.

A Challenging Yet Inspiring Journey

On that day, the DT Peduli team embarked on a challenging 3-hour journey from Palembang. Narrow, muddy roads flanked by endless plantations posed their first obstacle.

Their four-wheel vehicle had to slowly navigate slippery terrain, at times getting stuck in muddy potholes from the previous day’s rain. But the end of the road was not the end of the journey.

Upon reaching the riverbank, the team had to continue by crossing a river in a traditional wooden boat used by local South Sumatran communities. Battling strong winds and swift currents, the team ensured that the qurban meat remained safe and hygienic throughout the journey.

A Reward Worth Every Step

All the hardship faded away the moment the team arrived in Pulau Kijang, Ogan Komering Ilir. Warm smiles and heartfelt greetings from residents made the trip worthwhile. For the community, Eid al-Adha is a rare opportunity to enjoy qurban meat.

Joni Susanto, Head of DT Peduli South Sumatra Office, said the journey to Pulau Kijang is a testament that compassion knows no boundaries. Through sincerity and community spirit, the joy of Eid can reach even the most remote corners.

“Alhamdulillah, we have successfully delivered the qurban entrusted to us by our donors. May the blessings of this qurban be felt not only by the recipients but also become a source of continuous reward (sadaqah jariyah) for the donors,” he expressed.

The pure smiles of children, elders, and families were the greatest reward of the long and challenging journey. The qurban meat was distributed directly to recipients, and the slaughter was performed according to Islamic rulings—ensuring the animals were healthy, of the right age, and met the criteria for valid qurban.

A Rare Moment of Joy for the Village

Mr. Bing, Head of the Pulau Kijang neighborhood, expressed his deep gratitude for the visit.

“This is a truly joyful moment for our community. We are very grateful to DT Peduli South Sumatra and the donors who have shared qurban meat with us here in this remote area. May this kindness bring abundant blessings to everyone involved,” he said.
