SEMARANG, INDONESIA — Laughter and joyful smiles lit up the faces of 50 orphaned children during the “Belanja Bahagia Bersama Sahabat Yatim” (Joyful Shopping with Orphaned Friends) program, hosted by DT Peduli Central Java (Jateng) in collaboration with the Majelis Telkomsel Taqwa (MTT) Central Java–Yogyakarta Region. The heartwarming event took place on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Aneka Jaya Mall, located on Woltermonginsidi Street, Semarang.
From early morning, the children—gathered from Semarang and nearby areas—were visibly excited. The event was part of Muharram Peduli Yatim, an annual campaign by DT Peduli to honor and uplift orphaned children through meaningful and joyful experiences.
“We hope this initiative is not only a momentary joy but also a lasting memory for these children—many of whom may never have experienced something like this before,” said Wahyu Hartawan, staff representative from MTT Regional Jateng-DIY.
Vita Febriarini, Head of the DT Peduli Central Java Branch Office, expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in them to implement the program. She reaffirmed DT Peduli’s commitment to standing by orphaned children during special moments like the Islamic New Year (Muharram).
The program was designed to be more than just a shopping trip—it was also an educational and inspirational experience. The day began with registration, followed by opening remarks from MTT and DT Peduli representatives. One of the most memorable moments was an Islamic storytelling session led by Kak Kempo, who shared values of courage, kindness, and generosity through engaging stories.
Afterward, the children were divided into small groups and accompanied by volunteers to shop for personal essentials, particularly school supplies. Excitement filled the air as each child had the freedom to choose items that they truly needed.
The event concluded with a communal lunch, cash assistance, group photos, and prayer together. As a unique gesture, each child also received a small potted plant as a keepsake—symbolizing a hope that they may grow with joy, resilience, and blessings.
The joy wasn’t felt by the children alone; it extended to their parents and guardians as well. Nurul Anifah, the mother of one of the participants, Naura, shared her heartfelt gratitude:
“Alhamdulillah, jazakumullah khair to DT Peduli and the generous donors. May your sustenance be blessed, your efforts succeed, and your lives be filled with goodness. We are sincerely grateful,” she said with emotion.
The Joyful Shopping Program stands as a powerful testament that compassion and collaboration can bring genuine smiles to the hearts of children. DT Peduli and MTT Central Java–Yogyakarta remain committed to delivering programs that go beyond material needs—programs that nurture hope, dignity, and brighter futures.
