SOUTH TAPANULI – The flash floods and landslides that struck South Tapanuli Regency (Tapsel) triggered an immediate humanitarian response. On Monday (1 December 2025), the DT Peduli Riau team deployed an ambulance unit and five volunteers to carry out an emergency relief mission.
Their primary focus was delivering aid to affected residents in Batang Toru District, particularly in Garoga Village.
The arrival of the volunteer team in Tapsel brought not only empathy, but also essential logistical supplies and urgently needed medicines—critical in an emergency situation where access to food, healthcare, and basic needs has been severely disrupted. This assistance is hoped to serve as vital support for displaced families who have lost their homes and belongings.
DT Peduli Riau recognizes that the post-disaster period requires strong logistical support and rapid medical response. Therefore, the aid delivered included staple food packages to ensure food security, ready-to-eat meals, as well as blankets and hygiene kits to help restore comfort and dignity for residents in evacuation shelters.
In addition, the team brought basic medical supplies to prevent the spread of post-disaster diseases and to provide essential healthcare support for residents in Garoga Village.
Upon arrival, the volunteer team immediately coordinated with local authorities to ensure that all logistical and medical assistance was distributed efficiently and accurately to the families most in need.
“We will give our best to help the disaster-affected residents. We will also set up and prepare ready-to-eat meals and assist with the evacuation of victims. We hope the public can support these efforts, whether through direct involvement or donations,” said Rahmat Gunawan, a DT Peduli Riau volunteer.
According to Rahmat, DT Peduli Riau’s emergency response mission represents a humanitarian solidarity effort that brings a glimmer of hope amid the deep grief experienced by communities in South Tapanuli.
