Promoting an Eco-Friendly Lifestyle, DT Peduli West Sumatra Educates Quran Students on Biopore Waste Management

WEST SUMATRA — DT Peduli West Sumatra, in collaboration with Bank Sampah Pancadaya, organized an environmental education program focusing on biopore waste management at the DT Peduli West Sumatra Quran Memorization House (Rumah Tahfidz Qur’an) on Thursday (September 19, 2025).

The program aimed to raise students’ awareness about the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness, enhance their practical skills in managing organic waste, and inspire them to become environmental change agents within their communities.

This biopore waste management initiative marks a concrete step by DT Peduli West Sumatra to instill environmental responsibility from an early age — shaping a generation that is not only spiritually and intellectually strong but also environmentally conscious.

The activity began with an introduction to biopore concepts, followed by hands-on practice where students created biopore holes around the Quran House area. The participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the session.

In addition, the students were taught how to process organic waste — such as food scraps and dry leaves — into natural compost that can be used for plants.

Halimahtus Sa’diyah, Program Manager of DT Peduli West Sumatra, explained that the initiative serves as both an expression of environmental care and an opportunity for students to gain applicable knowledge. “We hope the students not only understand the theory but also develop habits that reflect a clean and eco-friendly lifestyle. Biopores are a simple yet effective solution to reduce waste while preserving environmental sustainability,” she stated.
