DT Peduli Malang Conducts Survey for Clean Water Distribution in Malang Regency
MALANG – The DT Peduli Malang team visited Tumpak Village, Sumbermanjing Wetan District, Malang Regency, on Wednesday (06/08/2025) to conduct a site survey for a planned clean water distribution project. This initiative marks the beginning of a concrete effort to provide a sustainable solution for residents who have faced difficulties accessing clean water for many years.
The survey was carried out thoroughly, assessing existing water sources, potential distribution access, and the location of residential areas prioritized as beneficiaries. Field observations revealed a concerning fact: most residents of Tumpak Village currently rely on purchasing clean water delivered by 1,000-liter tank trucks, costing around IDR 50,000 per tank.
On average, each household spends between IDR 500,000 and 800,000 per month just to meet basic water needs — a heavy financial burden, especially for families with limited income.
Ironically, before this situation arose, the community had depended on a natural spring located on the outskirts of the village. For years, the spring was the main source for daily needs such as cooking, washing, and drinking. However, the water flow gradually decreased and eventually stopped completely after several years. Extended dry seasons and environmental changes are believed to be the main causes of the spring’s depletion, leaving residents without their primary water source and forcing them to seek costly alternatives.
Wawik, a resident who accompanied the DT Peduli team during the survey, expressed optimism about the program’s potential impact.
“If we can have a deep well drilled and water distributed directly to our homes, the benefits would be tremendous. It would not only meet our daily needs without constant worry, but also significantly reduce the monthly expenses that have been such a heavy burden,” he said with hope.
The clean water distribution program is planned through deep well drilling and the construction of a distribution system that will channel water directly to households. With this system, residents of Tumpak Village will gain access to safe, affordable, and reliable clean water. Beyond easing daily life, the program is also expected to have a positive impact on community health, household finances, and overall productivity.
DT Peduli Malang emphasized that this survey is more than just a formality — it reflects a genuine commitment to bring meaningful change.
“We want to ensure that the solutions provided are truly effective and sustainable. Access to clean water is a basic human need, and meeting it will bring about many positive changes,” said Joko Cahyono, Head of the DT Peduli Malang Service Office.
Once implemented, the program will free Tumpak Village residents from dependency on costly water tank supplies. Reliable clean water access will mark a turning point toward a healthier, more dignified, and prosperous community.
