DT Peduli and UKK UNP Distribute Basic Necessities to University Students Affected by Flash Floods in Padang

Wednesday, 3 December 2025 | DT Peduli Team | Padang, West Sumatra

PADANG — DT Peduli, in collaboration with the Islamic Student Activity Unit (UKK) of Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP), distributed essential relief packages to families of UNP students affected by the recent galodo (flash flood) in Tabing, Koto Tangah Subdistrict, on Wednesday (3 December 2025). At least five households affiliated with UKK UNP received the assistance.

The distribution followed a rapid assessment and coordination with UKK representatives to ensure the aid reached students whose homes suffered severe damage.

Flash-flood material originating from the Lubuk Minturun watershed left several student homes uninhabitable. The surge of water brought thick mud and debris, inundating entire rooms. Beyond structural damage, many students also lost essential belongings and household items.

“One of the locations hit by the galodo from the Lubuk Minturun flow has begun to dry up, Alhamdulillah. However, the mud is still thick, though residents have started cleaning the area,” a DT Peduli volunteer reported from the field, describing the aftermath that continues to cause hardship.

The volunteer also expressed gratitude for the spirit of mutual support shown by the community, adding hopes that similar disasters will not recur and prayers for the students and families affected.

“Pray that this does not happen again, and may those impacted by the galodo be granted strength and patience by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala,” he said.

DT Peduli emphasized that its humanitarian response will not stop here. With many residents—especially out-of-town students—still in need of support to restore their living conditions, the team plans to expand aid distribution to other affected areas.

The flash flood has had a significant impact on students living far from their families. Efforts such as these aim to ease their burdens and encourage them as they begin the recovery process.

DT Peduli also calls on the wider public to extend support, whether through prayers or contributions, to aid the recovery of Padang and the surrounding areas.
