Building Strong Character, DT Peduli Holds Training for Khadimul Ummah Scholarship Cohort 5
SURABAYA – DT Peduli East Java held a two-day training and education program for the recipients of the Khadimul Ummah (KU) Student Scholarship, Cohort 5, on Friday (15 August 2025) and Saturday (16 August 2025). The event took place at the DT Peduli East Java office and was attended by 13 scholarship recipients.
The main goal of the program was to shape the participants’ character by fostering strong motivation in reading, teaching, and memorising the Quran, while instilling discipline as a foundation for success in various aspects of life.
The program began on Friday afternoon with participant registration at 12:30 PM, followed by the opening session, which included a Quran recitation, welcoming remarks by DT Peduli East Java Branch Head, Bangbang Sujana, and the reading of the program guidelines by the organising committee.
The first session, Introduction to Strong and Noble Character (BAKU), was delivered by Bangbang Sujana. He emphasised the importance of building resilience and integrity as students and as future leaders of the ummah.
The second session was presented by Ustaz Abdul Wahid Faizin, Head of the Fatwa Commission of MUI Surabaya, under the theme Building Qur’anic and God-Centred Character. He reminded participants that the Quran is the ultimate guide for life, bringing blessings and clarity, and that closeness to the Quran will direct a Muslim towards a purposeful and meaningful life.
On Friday evening, participants joined a group Quran recitation, dinner, and idea presentations based on randomly assigned themes of social life—such as health, education, and economics. The first day concluded at 10:30 PM, with participants instructed to rest before the qiyamul lail (night prayers) scheduled at 3:00 AM.
The second day focused on practical field activities. After dawn prayers and a morning spiritual session (Manajemen Qolbu Pagi), participants engaged in group exercise and a needs assessment training with local street vendors around Pagesangan Market. The day continued with competitions and games in celebration of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day.
The program concluded with the appointment of a project leader for the cohort’s first community program, along with awards for the best, most favourite, and most disciplined participants.
“I was truly impressed by these two days full of meaning. From the Khadimul Ummah Scholarship Training by DT Peduli East Java, I gained so much valuable knowledge, especially a broader perspective on how to become a person who spreads benefits to others. We were also equipped with the concept of ‘BAKU Character’—Strong and Noble—as guidance for our future journey. May we be able to apply all the lessons and mentoring given, and become rabbani individuals whose benefits extend widely.”
DT Peduli East Java hopes that this program will serve as an important first step in nurturing a young generation with strong character, capability, and active contribution to society through Islamic and social values.
