BANDUNG – The month of Muharram always arrives with a message of transformation. It marks not just the beginning of the Islamic new year, but also a meaningful moment to strengthen compassion toward orphans. Muharram brings with it renewed hope and joy for those who need it most.
Each year, Daarut Tauhiid (DT) Peduli turns this sacred month into an opportunity to unite people through empathy. With the “Muharram Peduli Yatim” (Muharram Cares for Orphans) program, DT Peduli invites the community to turn their concern into real happiness for orphaned children.
This year, the program reaches across 33 cities/regencies in Indonesia—locations where DT Peduli’s regional and program offices are present—and even extends its support to Gaza, Palestine. The target: 25,000 orphans. A number that’s not only significant, but deeply meaningful.
“Muharram Peduli Yatim is DT Peduli’s humanitarian initiative during Muharram to provide aid, happiness, and hope for orphans and underprivileged children,” said Dede Sugih Hartono, DT Peduli’s Social and Humanitarian Program Officer, on Tuesday (15 July 2025).
“The aid is distributed as cash assistance, food packages, or ready-to-eat meals, both in Indonesia and for orphaned children in Palestine,” he added.
This year’s program is extra special with several key initiatives:
- Qur’an Memorization Scholarships
- Qur’an Learning Homes (Rumah Tahfidz)
- Scholarships for Outstanding Students
- Sriwijaya Tauhid Village
- Joyful Shopping Trips
- Happy Outings (Wisata Bahagia)
- Blessed Mass Circumcision
- Cash Assistance for Orphans, including those in Palestine
Each child receives between IDR 300,000 and IDR 600,000, depending on the form of assistance. The total fundraising target is IDR 5.5 billion (approx. USD 330,000).
Happiness for a Sustainable Future
The impact of the program can be felt immediately—children receive meals, school supplies, or pocket money. But more importantly, it brings them rare moments of joy and dignity.
DT Peduli also focuses on long-term empowerment. Through continued programs like scholarships, Qur’an memorization homes, and skills training, these children are nurtured not just to receive help, but to eventually become givers of benefit to others.
“Some of the orphans we supported years ago have now grown into resilient young adults, continuing their education, becoming Qur’an memorizers, or actively involved in social outreach,” Dede shared.
Collective Compassion
What DT Peduli does is not a solitary mission. This program is a platform for organized, impactful compassion. Thousands of orphans have already experienced the real benefits—from better living standards and improved school motivation, to becoming inspiring young leaders who actively engage in Islamic outreach.
The year 2025 is a milestone year. In addition to the expanded distribution to Palestine, this program now includes:
- Sustainable child development
- Enhanced beneficiary verification systems
- Digital donations via QRIS and online platforms
The Muharram Peduli Yatim program runs throughout June–July 2025.
Dede also extended his gratitude to every donor who has shared their love with orphaned children:
“The children’s heartfelt prayers are for all of our donors. May Allah bless you with abundant sustenance, health, and loving families. And for those who haven’t had the chance to donate yet—this sacred month is the perfect time to begin. Because even the smallest act in a blessed time can become a radiant light in both this world and the hereafter,” he concluded.
