Bridge Collapse Cuts Off Main Access Route, DT Peduli Distributes Emergency Aid to Flash Flood Survivors in Aceh

Tuesday, 3 December 2025 | DT Peduli Team | Bireuen, Aceh

BIREUEN — The main inter-provincial route connecting North Sumatra to Banda Aceh was completely shut down after the Kutablang Bridge in Bireuen Regency collapsed due to a powerful flash flood. The incident has severely disrupted the delivery of essential supplies, including food and fuel, to several affected areas across Aceh.

DT Peduli volunteers on the ground reported that residents are now relying on local wooden boats as the only means of crossing between regions. The situation has worsened the hardship of communities already struggling with shortages of basic necessities following the collapse of the main access route.

“DT Peduli teams reporting from the Kutublang Bridge confirmed that the bridge has collapsed, causing a total shutdown of access between North Sumatra and Banda Aceh. This has slowed the distribution of relief supplies and triggered shortages of essential goods,” a DT Peduli volunteer said on Tuesday (3 December 2025).
To address the urgent needs of affected communities, DT Peduli launched emergency relief operations in several villages. On Tuesday and Wednesday (2–3 December 2025), logistical aid was distributed in Peusangan Siblah Krueng Subdistrict, including Lueng Daneun Village, Tingkem Village, and Blang Kubu Village.

In Pante Baro Gle Siblah Krueng Village, DT Peduli delivered rice, instant noodles, blankets, clothing, and baby care items to 243 families, benefiting approximately 1,200 people. Conditions in the area remain extremely challenging, with no electricity, unstable communication networks, and limited external assistance.

The distribution also reached 220 families (920 people) in Lueng Daneun Village and 250 families (1,000 people) in Blang Kubu Village—both facing access constraints and acute shortages of essential supplies. Meanwhile, in Tingkem Village, Kutablang Subdistrict, emergency food assistance was provided for 50 people requiring immediate support.

DT Peduli stated that its humanitarian efforts will continue in the coming days. The next agenda includes coordination with the Aceh Provincial Government, assessment of food availability in the Peusangan Raya region, distribution of aid to Kuala Ceurape Village, evaluation of temporary shelter needs, and support for establishing a public kitchen in Pante Baro.

“The situation remains dynamic, and the needs are still significant. We continue to move and ensure that assistance reaches the flash flood survivors most in need,” the volunteer added.

DT Peduli is urging the wider community to contribute to ongoing recovery efforts as Aceh continues to face major disaster-related challenges.
