Amid Floodwaters and Thick Mud, DT Peduli Sets Up Public Kitchen for 921 Displaced Families in Pidie Jaya

Wednesday, 3 December 2025 | DT Peduli Team | Pidie Jaya, Aceh

PIDIE JAYA — DT Peduli, together with local residents, established a public kitchen at At-Taqwa Mosque in Menasah Balek Village, Meureudu Subdistrict, Pidie Jaya, on Wednesday (3 December 2025).

The initiative aims to support flood survivors who are still sheltering at the evacuation site.

A total of 921 families have been displaced due to the flooding. The public kitchen has become a vital lifeline for meeting daily food needs, especially as access remains limited and demand for basic supplies continues to rise. Many residents are still unable to return home due to lingering floodwaters and thick layers of mud, estimated between 50 and 100 centimeters deep.

Maribah, the field coordinator for DT Peduli Pidie Jaya, stated that the public kitchen began operating early in the morning with the involvement of volunteers and local residents. The meals are designed to be nutritious and sufficient for displaced families, especially children and the elderly.

“We are working to ensure that food distribution runs orderly and evenly. This public kitchen serves as a central hub to ensure that affected families receive warm meals every day,” she said.

In addition to food assistance, DT Peduli is conducting further assessments to identify additional needs, including clean water, proper clothing, healthcare services, and special support for infants and pregnant women.

DT Peduli is calling on the wider community to support the ongoing emergency response in Aceh—whether through donations or volunteer participation—to help families affected by the disaster. With collective efforts from volunteers and the community, it is hoped that residents can recover soon and return to normalcy.
