BOGOR — A somber atmosphere filled the Rumah Tahfidz Quran (RTQ) DT Peduli Bogor on Sunday (October 5, 2025). One of its students, Khairunnisa Nurseli, has returned to the mercy of Allah SWT. Born in Bogor on December 19, 2001, Khairunnisa was known as a gentle, diligent young woman with a great aspiration — to become a Qur’an teacher and memorizer (hafidzah).
A Student Full of Passion for Learning
Khairunnisa came from a modest family in Surupan Village, Sukasaran, Karang Tengah, Cianjur, West Java. She was the second of six siblings. Her father, Dundun Supyan, passed away when she was young, leaving her mother, Listi — a homemaker — as the sole provider for the family.
Despite living with physical challenges, Khairunnisa was known for her enthusiasm and optimism. After completing elementary school, she contracted polio, which caused paralysis in her legs and required her to use a wheelchair. Yet, her condition never dampened her will to learn and contribute.
Before becoming a student at RTQ DT Peduli Bogor, Khairunnisa joined a disability empowerment program organized by DT Peduli. There, she received sewing training as a form of livelihood support. With great determination, she learned to operate a sewing machine and eventually created her own products.
Her sewing works became tangible proof that physical limitations are no obstacle to creativity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she contributed by sewing clothes and face masks as an act of kindness toward others. From her frail yet skillful hands came blessings that benefited many.
Following that program, her desire to pursue Islamic studies grew even stronger. Khairunnisa decided to join Rumah Tahfidz Quran DT Peduli Bogor to deepen her understanding of the Qur’an and realize her dream of becoming a Qur’an teacher. Three months ago, she officially began her studies at the RTQ.
“Alhamdulillah, Teh Nisa participated in all activities as usual — Qur’an study circles, congregational prayers, tahajjud, duha, and the Thibbun Nabawi extracurricular. During Hadroh practice, she attended her therapy sessions every Wednesday. She even joined outdoor activities such as swimming, and she took part in monthly Ulumuddin exams with great enthusiasm,” recalled Khilda, RTQ DT Peduli Bogor supervisor.
During her studies, Khairunnisa successfully memorized one juz of the Qur’an. She went through the memorization process with patience and perseverance, treating every verse as a source of strength and a gift for her late father.
Beyond memorization, Khairunnisa actively participated in extracurricular activities such as Marawis and Thibbun Nabawi. She was known for her cheerful personality, sociability, and ability to inspire her peers with her positive energy.
In her free time, Khairunnisa loved reading novels and watching dramas. For her, these activities were not mere entertainment but also ways to understand life and fill her time with positivity.
Illness and an Unexpected Farewell
At the beginning of October, Khairunnisa’s health began to decline. On Wednesday (October 1, 2025), she complained of shortness of breath. After receiving back therapy and honey treatment, her condition improved, and she resumed her regular activities — even attending another therapy session on Saturday (October 4).
However, Sunday morning (October 5) turned into a heartbreaking day. Around 8:30 a.m., after bathing and dressing with the help of a friend, Khairunnisa suddenly experienced severe shortness of breath and lost consciousness. Her caretaker immediately took her to the nearest community health center (Puskesmas).
Tragically, no ambulance driver was available at the time. In the emergency, she was transported to the hospital using public transportation. On the way, she took her final breath.
At her family’s request, Khairunnisa’s body was brought home to Cianjur, where she was buried the same day at 2:05 p.m. Tears flowed as friends, teachers, and family bid farewell to a gentle and devoted student.
The life story of Khairunnisa Nurseli is a reflection of unwavering faith and perseverance — a reminder that physical limitations cannot restrain the strength of one’s soul. From her wheelchair, with a small mushaf resting on her lap, she radiated light through her memorization of the Qur’an.
Now, Khairunnisa has returned to her Creator, leaving behind a legacy of sincerity and inspiration for all who knew her. For the RTQ DT Peduli Bogor family, she was not just a student — she was a teacher of patience, resilience, and faith.
“May Khairunnisa be granted an honorable place by Allah SWT, and may her family be given strength and patience,” said Taufik Hidayat, Head of DT Peduli Bogor.
