Floods Trigger Hunger in Aceh Tamiang, IDI and DT Peduli Deliver Emergency Aid

Tuesday, 9 December 2025 | IDI & DT Peduli Team | Aceh Tamiang, Aceh

ACEH TAMIANG — Shortages of basic food supplies and clean water continue to plague residents of Aceh Tamiang in the aftermath of the devastating floods that struck the region.

Limited access to safe drinking water and disrupted logistics routes have forced some residents to endure hunger, while clean water needs are being met only through external assistance.

Responding to the situation, the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI), through DT Peduli, once again demonstrated its commitment by distributing 25 food aid packages along with bottled drinking water to affected residents. The assistance is considered crucial, as many residents had previously relied on floodwater for bathing and washing.

In the early days of the flooding, some residents were even forced to drink settled floodwater to survive, as no other water sources were available.

“We are truly grateful to the Indonesian Medical Association. This assistance means so much to us in these difficult post-flood conditions,” said a resident encountered at the site, his feet still covered in mud.

The aid from IDI was distributed to several affected locations, including Menanggini Village and Tanjung Karang Village in Aceh Tamiang. Aceh Tamiang Regional Secretary Muhammad Nurdin stated that the provision of clean water and food supplies has been vital for the community.

“Community activities remain paralyzed due to power outages and many vehicles being swept away. This assistance is essential for sustaining residents during the recovery period,” he emphasized.

According to him, the initiative has become a renewed source of hope for the people of Aceh Tamiang, who continue to struggle to recover amid an ongoing crisis of logistics and clean water that has yet to fully stabilize.
