ACEH TAMIANG — Severe flooding that has struck parts of Aceh over the past week has left deep scars on thousands of residents. As of the seventh day after the disaster, several villages remain paralyzed—buried under thick mud and difficult to access—leaving food assistance limited and forcing residents to survive on dwindling supplies.
Responding to the situation, YBM PLN, in collaboration with DT Peduli, moved swiftly to navigate challenging terrain to deliver humanitarian assistance to residents in two of the hardest-hit areas, Peureulak and Gampong Bundar in Aceh Tamiang, on Saturday (6/12/2025).
The journey to the affected locations was far from easy. Mud-covered key access roads, and in several areas, floodwaters had previously submerged homes up to their rooftops. Peureulak emerged as one of the most critical distribution points due to its proximity to mountainous areas, where strong flood currents caused extensive damage to residential neighborhoods.
In this distribution effort, YBM PLN delivered 200 aid packages consisting of staple food items, medicines, baby diapers, sanitary pads, as well as cooking equipment such as LPG gas stoves and cooking pots. The assistance was evenly distributed, with 100 packages allocated to residents of Peureulak and 100 packages to residents of Gampong Bundar, Aceh Tamiang.
With many homes still buried under thick layers of mud, cooking equipment has become an urgent necessity. Numerous families continue to struggle to prepare meals as their kitchens remain unusable.
Amid the distribution process, emotions ran high among the beneficiaries. One of them, Leli, a resident of Peureulak, expressed her gratitude for the presence of the YBM PLN and DT Peduli teams.
“Thank you so much for the assistance. This is extremely helpful and gives us a sense of gratitude after enduring hunger during the floods. May YBM continue to succeed,” she said with a trembling voice.
Through this assistance, YBM PLN hopes to ease the burden on affected residents and help accelerate recovery efforts in areas that remain isolated.
