JAKARTA – The Rumah Tahfidz Qur’an (RTQ) at Daarut Tauhiid Mosque Jakarta has launched a new program integrating formal education with Qur’an memorisation. The initiative aims to nurture a generation of Qur’an memorisers (hafidz) who also receive formal education equivalent to junior and senior high school levels.
The pilot program currently involves 15 students divided into four classes. Lessons are conducted online every Saturday and Sunday, in collaboration with the Daarut Tauhiid Community Learning Centre (PKBM) in Bandung.
In addition to formal subjects, students receive weekly local content, including Qur’an recitation (tahsin), Daarut Tauhiid Culture, Arabic language, as well as practical skills such as design and office applications. This ensures that students not only excel academically but also develop supporting competencies and internalise the values of Daarut Tauhiid.
Most of the students come from underprivileged and orphaned backgrounds. This program demonstrates the effective use of zakat funds to create wide-reaching benefits.
“This is our first Qur’an memorisation program combined with formal education. Previous cohorts consisted of students who had already completed high school. This time, we are focusing on junior and senior high school ages, so they can be guided more effectively and shaped in both character and discipline,” he said.
While the program has been running well, online learning presents challenges, including technical difficulties and the limited ability of teachers to monitor students’ focus. Nevertheless, the organisers hope to continue and expand the program so that more children from disadvantaged families can benefit.
Through this program, DT Peduli seeks to open brighter futures for its students, strengthen donor confidence, and further enrich the role of Daarut Tauhiid Mosque as a centre of learning and empowerment.
