MAKASSAR – A spirit of gratitude filled Kampung Zakat Lakkang Island, Makassar City, on Saturday (6 September 2025) as the local Shrimp Farming Group celebrated a successful tiger prawn (udang windu) harvest. The harvest is part of an economic empowerment program initiated by DT Peduli South Sulawesi in collaboration with the Makassar City Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA).
This season’s harvest yielded approximately 100 kilograms of tiger prawns, providing concrete evidence that the Kampung Zakat program is enhancing community livelihoods through sustainable empowerment.
Head of DT Peduli South Sulawesi, Salehuddin, expressed his pride:
“We are very proud to see the results achieved by the Lakkang farming group. This successful harvest shows that the program we are running is making a real, positive impact on improving the local economy,” he said.
The harvest event was also attended by the Head of Makassar MoRA, H. Irman; the Chair of Dharma Wanita Persatuan Makassar MoRA, Hj. Aqidah Irman, DT Peduli South Sulawesi Program Manager, Mirah, and Ahmad Malik Thaha, along with staff from the Makassar MoRA Zakat and Waqf Department.
Chairman of the Shrimp Farming Group, H. Jamaluddin, expressed his gratitude:
“Alhamdulillah, this harvest is very satisfying. We thank DT Peduli South Sulawesi and MoRA Makassar for their support and guidance. Through this Kampung Zakat empowerment program, we’ve gained new knowledge and skills in better aquaculture practices. God willing, next month we will have our second harvest.”
This harvest celebration not only brought joy to the community but also marked the success of synergy between local residents, government, and social organisations in driving economic independence based on local potential.
