TUNIS – The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), a humanitarian fleet bound for Gaza, has once again come under attack at the Port of Sidi Bou Said in Tunis, Tunisia. This marks the second assault in as many days, sparking widespread concern and condemnation.

The latest incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday (10 September 2025) local time. According to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, video evidence showed an unlit drone approaching one of the vessels.

“The video evidence shows that a drone – without lights, making it invisible – dropped a device that set fire to the deck of the vessel Alma,” Albanese explained.

She added that expert analysis indicated the device was most likely an incendiary grenade.

“Experts suggest it was an incendiary grenade wrapped in plastic material soaked in fuel, possibly ignited before landing on the ship,” she noted.

Muhammad Husein, Coordinator of the Indonesia Global Peace Convoy (IGPC), who was present at the scene, confirmed the attack and attributed responsibility to Israel.

“For the second time in two consecutive days, Global Sumud Flotilla ships docked at Sidi Bou Said port in Tunis have been targeted by drones, believed to be launched by Israeli forces,” Husein reported from Tunisia.

Support Flows, Determination Unwavering

The incident drew strong reactions from residents. According to Husein, Tunisians flocked to the port to express solidarity and provide moral support to the volunteers.

“People poured into the harbor to stand with the Global Sumud Flotilla and voice their condemnation of Israel,” he said.

Husein stressed that these acts of intimidation would not deter the activists. Instead, the attacks have reinforced their determination to press on with the mission to break the siege on Gaza.

“This sends a message to Israel that such cowardly assaults, violating Tunisia’s sovereignty and territorial boundaries, will neither intimidate Tunisia nor weaken the resolve of the Global Sumud Flotilla,” he affirmed.

The GSF mission brings together volunteers from 44 countries with the aim of opening a humanitarian corridor to Gaza by sea through non-violent action.

Condition of Indonesian Delegates

As the fleet prepared for its final stage, Husein confirmed that all 30 Indonesian delegates remained in good condition. While some showed signs of fatigue from intensive training, their spirits remain high.

“Mentally and morally, our friends are very prepared and motivated to continue the Global Sumud Flotilla mission,” he emphasized.

The GSF was scheduled to set sail for Gaza today, though the attacks may cause a delay. Volunteers and supporters worldwide continue to hope that this historic maritime humanitarian mission will soon proceed, bringing relief to the people of Gaza under siege.
